When You Launch Something

  • I've launched a lot of sites in my time, some have gone on to be hugely succesful, others have flopped big time.  But there's a couple things I've learned over the years and I thought I'd make a blog post on my newest venture to share it with everyone.  (I encourage all members to blog here too as you're going to get a crapload of readers and traffic by the time we go into full launch mode).

    Anyhow here's a couple things I've learned:

1.) Don't pre judge things.  Some times you get an idea, think it'll do awesome then end up shelving it because your spouse or someone you told didn't react the way you thought they should.  We're human, but don't do that.  One persons opinion is just that, one person.  You could be sitting on a very good idea but never take action because one person said they didn't like it.  Don't do that.

2.) Mindset is key.  Go into everything you do with the mindset that you're going to be the best at it in the world.  Have confidence that your ideas and your implemetation is A-1.  Don't ever let negative feelings consume you.  Be positive and look at the bright side of every effort you make.

3.) Failing is also key.  You simply have to fail in order to succeed.  We've all heard how many tries it took Edison to invent the lightbulb, why would we be any different.  He said he never failed, he just found thousands of ways NOT to do it.  In my experience, everytime I fail I'm one step closer to something big happening.  I know this and that's why I have no fear of failure anymore.  You shouldn't either.

4.) Partners are a good thing.  If you're not sure how to do something but someone else is an expert at it, why not approach them and offer them a share of your idea in exchange for their expertise on the project.  That works and works well.  I've got over 10 partners at the moment in a lot of online ventures.  Some are doing well, some so-so and some are failing but the point is I found people who compliment me.  You should too.

5.) It doesn't have to be perfect.  I'm a huge proponent of just getting SOMETHING out there first, then fixing it as I go along.  Too many get stuck trying to make things 100% perfect before launching, you don't need to do that and all it does is delay launches of projects because perfection is not possible.  I'm not saying put out garbgage, but instead put it out when it's working correctly and doing what it should.  Don't worry about the little details, you can always adjust as you go along.

That's just off the top of my head, but I hope you guys learned a bit from it.  Also, if you've got a good idea and are not sure how to take it to market or what to do next, then hit me up!  I'm getting very good at a lot of online marketing partnerships and if your idea is very good, I might even partner with you on it!

Nick Chalker That's so spot on, Coach. It's amazing how much you feel that you've accomplished by just launching. It feels like everything else is simply details.
To quote the late, great Gary Halbert "You don't have to get it right, just get it going" and ...  more

Will Haimerl Hey Nick, I did read your email, it's a good idea, but I'm wondering about the logistics of it. I'll email you what I'm talking about.
